A walk at Les Orpellières

A walk at Les Orpellières de Sérignan, a Natura 2000 site, 20 minutes away by bike

What nobody tells you about Les Orpellières

The Les Orpellières nature reserve isn’t featured in tourist guides. That’s why it’s still unspoilt. A wetland covering several hundred hectares between the mouth of the Orb and the Mediterranean, designated a Natura 2000 site, with no motorised vehicles permitted and free entry all year round.

From Hello Summer Inn, the cycle path along the River Orb takes you straight there in 20 minutes. No traffic, no complicated junctions. You set off on your bike and arrive in another world

Les Orpellières Nature Reserve Throughout the Seasons

Spring & Autumn: Spectacular Bird Migration

Spring and autumn are the best times to discover the incredible bird migrations at Les Orpellières Nature Reserve, one of the top birdwatching destinations in Southern France.

Observe Greater Flamingos, Caspian Terns, Grey Herons, Purple Herons, Common Kingfishers, and Western Marsh Harriers, along with around ten species of birds of prey depending on the season.

Whether you're a passionate birder or simply love nature, these months offer exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.

Summer: Enjoy an Unspoilt Mediterranean Beach

During summer, the reserve reveals one of the most beautiful wild beaches on the Mediterranean coast.

Crystal-clear water, natural dunes, and no busy roads create a peaceful setting away from the crowds. It's the perfect destination for visitors looking for authentic nature and untouched landscapes.

Winter: Peace, Nature and Wildlife Photography

Winter transforms Les Orpellières into a haven of tranquillity.

Thousands of ducks and coots gather on the brackish lagoons, while the soft winter light over the reed beds creates perfect conditions for birdwatching and nature photography.

Walking Trails at Les Orpellières Nature Reserve

Two walking routes start from the Sérignan entrance.

Short Walking Trail (4 km)

This easy 4 km walking trail follows the brackish lagoons and is partially accessible for pushchairs.

Allow around one hour to complete the walk at a leisurely pace.

It's an excellent route for birdwatching, offering numerous opportunities to observe local wildlife. Remember to bring binoculars and a camera.

Long Walking Trail (8 km)

The 8 km trail crosses the entire nature reserve before reaching the spectacular wild Mediterranean beach.

Allow approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

As parts of the route are not fully signposted, we recommend downloading the trail map before setting off.

The beach and dune sections provide very little shade, so bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat during warmer months.
